Our line boring services are well suited to repair, recondition and perform modifications to large machinery components having worn or misaligned hinge pin and bushing joints. Worn thrust faces and snap ring grooves can also be repaired or modified to change clearances if required.

Infield line boring services combined with our welding and fabricating experience can provide effective solutions and cost savings over dismantling and transporting large parts to a machine shop for repairs, often we can accomplish a larger volume of work in a shorter time period at your location.

Our line boring machinery is capable of machining bores from 1 3/8” thru 24” diameter maximum capacity. Facing can be accomplished to a maximum diameter of approximately 20”, we currently have tooling in stock to perform work in the 13” maximum diameter range however the larger tooling can be readily obtained to machine larger parts if required.

Best results are obtained when worn or misaligned bores and faces are built up by welding prior to machining to original size of the parts contained. This method is used on 99% of our projects because it is permanent, can easily be repeated if necessary, does not compromise the original structure thickness, and always uses the original equipment manufacturers pins and bushings.

Boring oversize and installing nonstandard bushing parts is the other method that can be used. Oversize nonstandard bushings often create future parts availability problems and promote breakage of the eye because it can be machined to thin; many times oversize bushings have a short service life in demanding applications, however on materials that cannot be readily welded this may be the only way to salvage a worn part.

All our line boring projects include setup and layout of bores to match other pins for proper function, in addition grease veins and holes are checked and repaired if needed. Installation of the original equipment wear bushings will be provided if they are used.

Our portable 60 ton Enerpac hydraulic press can install bushings in a wide range of sizes during re-bushing operations and assist in the removal of stuck pins without cutting or excessive labor.

We have straightened and line bored successfully many badly bent plate sections at pin joints on earthmoving and forestry equipment including main frames, articulation joints, loader arms and large excavator booms. Bending occurs when a pin breaks or works half way out during a loading cycle. Forklift axle components sometimes distort after years of load cycling and need realignment. Damaged parts can be successfully straightened both heated and cold with specialized tooling. Welding the insides of pin bores and line boring to original pin size restores pin bore alignment.

Our line boring services are sometimes called upon to machine large structural parts in our own fabrication work, as well as some of our clients manufacturing and construction operations. We welcome any opportunity to provide service in these industries.
